<P>庞贝城(Pompeii)的开发始于西元前八世纪前叶，这座城市是坐落在义大利半岛的那不勒斯湾平原，北靠巍峨峻峭的维苏戚火山，西临海水蔚蓝的不勒斯湾。庞贝城后来落在罗马人手中，西元前87年成为罗马的一个自治城市，人口约两万，因为纪念古罗马政治及军事家庞贝(Pompeii)而命名。
<P>庞贝城的面积约一平方公里，四周由石砌成城墙，共有七个城门。城内最宏伟的建筑物都集中在西南部一个长方形广场的四周，是庞贝政治、经济和宗教的中心；广场的东北是商场； 广场的东南是庞贝城官府的所在地。庞贝城内的竞技场大到可以容纳12,000 名的观众，也就是说可以容纳六成的人民，规模之大正显示其崇尚暴力和对于血腥的热爱。当时的庞贝可以说是富人的天堂，拥有华丽的豪宅和成群的奴仆，好逸恶劳，奢侈美食、佳馔、好酒、戏剧、纵淫作乐，盛行同性恋，连奴仆都竞相效尤糜烂淫乱，而且不敬神。
<P>西元79年8月24日，意大利维苏威火山瞬间喷发，大量的火山岩灰如泉涌地将整个繁华的庞贝城淹没，将它深埋在4公尺的地底。
<P>一直到一七四八年，人们才挖出一块上面刻有“庞贝”的字样石块，终于揭开了庞贝古城之谜。更难能可贵的是在一千九百多年后的今天，庞贝城的所有事物，仍然保存着西元79年8月24日当时的景致。其中，最受瞩目而又令人啧啧称奇的文物，就是一尊保存的完整如初的“维纳斯”雕像，实在很难想象在这么大的灾难中，竟然可以保存得这么的完整，真的是不可思议，难不成真正是神的旨意 ─ 再度警示于人。<BR><BR><B>南亚大海啸之后 印尼震灾再现</B>
<P>2004年12月26日的南亚大海啸，造成斯里兰卡全国大约三万一千人死亡和一百万人无家可归，其中至少有五千多人被草草掩埋。无独有偶地在5月27日清晨，印度尼西亚中部地区又面临了一场最惨重的芮氏规模6.2强震，5782人死亡，三万三千多人受伤，三十四万人无家可归，震中附近数座小镇几乎被夷为平地。
<P>世界上最古老的佛塔，就是东南亚最大的佛教建筑 --婆罗浮屠佛塔，恰巧是位于印度尼西亚爪哇岛中部的马吉冷婆罗浮屠村，在日惹市往北距离约30公里，尽管附近数周的建筑均已经坍塌，婆罗浮屠佛塔这座古佛塔却完整无缺，没有丝毫受到损伤的迹象。
<P>婆罗浮屠佛塔与埃及金字塔、泰姬玛哈陵、万里长城、吴哥窟、罗马竞技场、比萨斜塔并列世界七大奇迹，名列联合国教科文组织的世界文化遗产。婆罗浮屠佛塔建于西元9世纪，以石材建造，高34.5公尺，气势雄伟。奇迹中屹立不摇，岂又是偶然得来的？!
