<p style="text-indent: 22pt; line-height: 200%"><font color="#333333"><P><SPAN class=articleBody id=_ctl1_lblArticleContent>书生余某，浙江鄞县人。出生时的那天晚上，他的外祖父，梦见自己进了文昌宫，见文昌帝君亲自送一位身材魁伟的男子走出殿阁，前有旌旗仪仗开路，后有节幢长队护拥，真是威仪万方，十分气派。
<P>旁边一位绿衣吏，拿着一本簿子，瞟了一眼老先生，说：“这是一位星君下凡，就是你的外孙。”把手中的黄色簿子给老先生看，翻到第一页，上面大字写着姓名，下面开列了官品等位，小字注写了一页多。九岁入学馆，十七岁中解元，接着登进士，廷试第一中状元。历任清贵之职，做官遍及京城和外省，最后升任宰相，赐爵上公，文治武功，勋业彪炳。还没有看完，被家人叫醒，原来是女婿家派人来报，生了个儿子。
<P>天亮以后，去婿家探视，各自叙说遇到的奇异现象，都感惊喜，肯定这孩子将来会成国家之栋梁！
<P>他从小就相貌不凡，稍长，聪颖绝伦，读书一目十行，七岁能写文章，九岁入县庠（学馆），一时被称为神童。
<P>恰在此时，他舅父以进士身份被外放，去广东做县令，就把他带去了。在广东住了几年，当时他已十七岁，博学丰才，见过他的人，都赞不绝口。他舅父的两个儿子，与他同学，比他就差远了。
<P>恰好当年逢秋试，舅父因为两个儿子学业未成，准备让他们等下一次科考，想让余生和两个儿子到时一同回老家。正犹豫之时，还未最后决定。
<P>一天夜里，舅父梦见神人对他说：“余生不归，浙江省今年就没有解元了。你让他快点回老家。”醒来后，就赶忙为外甥准备好行装，催他快些回去，并多给他路费。
<P>余生很以自己风雅而自得，非常喜欢眠花宿柳，一路挥金如土，刚过大庾岭，就花光了钱。路过江西一县，县令正是舅父之同年学友，一向很器重余生。余生就前去拜见，县令对他特别优厚，并把他推荐给一学馆任教。
<P>馆主人品狡猾。县里有一富家妇人，怀孕未产，丈夫已故。族中人想夺她的财产，诬陷她因奸受孕，告到官府。学馆馆主就是提出这一谋略的人。
<P>由于县令明辨是非，族人就要败诉了。馆主见余生是县令的座上客，就用巨款贿赂他，求他想办法挽救败局。
<P>余生正缺钱用，就巧言对县令说：“这女人秽声四著，全县都知道，而明公初次审讯，极力保全其名节，大家都以为您得了妇人的钱，有意袒护她。我有愧得到你的厚爱，也知您素来廉正，不忍看到您被下面吏役所蒙蔽，而蒙受不洁之名，所以把了解到的情况告诉您！”
<P>县令被他言辞所感，立即召集双方，把前所断决之案，全部推翻，判决将妇人休回娘家，并命族人为之另立继承人。族人遂把家财全部瓜分，并另送余生一千金。余生动身起程之时，寡妇回去自缢而死。
<P>余生一路来到衢州，州知府也是余生舅父的同年学友，很器重余生，也为他在外谋一教师之席。
<P>该郡有一富家之妇，新近守寡。有遗腹子，族人诬蔑是她抱养外姓之儿，控告到县上，尚未判决，族人又说她乱了宗脉，提出控告。郡守不大听信族人的指控。余生又收受了族人的贿赂，而巧言粉饰，面呈郡守，郡守也被他迷惑，判决废除妇人儿子的继承权，以族人之子为继承人。
<P>余生两次得逞，获大笔赂金，颇觉得意。考试完毕，竟榜上无名。
<P>回到家里，更加肆无忌惮，专门从事颠倒黑白，混淆是非的刀笔生涯，构思既巧妙，文章又雄辩，随意起灭，遭他祸害的人很多。而每次科试，次次落榜。到了四十岁，还只是一秀才。后来舅父下任回家，听说余生恶行，非常生气，把他关在家里，不准外出。
<P>一夜，舅父梦游城隍庙，见二位差吏坐在廊下。一吏说：“那姓余的，二十年来，屡次科考，屡次除名，是为什么？”另一人笑着说：“今科考试，又因某事被除名了！幸亏他舅父代他办了那件事，还能活命。”舅父感到很惊讶，上前打了一躬，问其中原委。
<P>那差吏就把一本簿子递过来，他翻开一看，第一页上就是余生的姓名，所列官品也和老太爷以前所见相同，只是下面开列了恶行条款，累累难数，几乎把前列福禄，抵消殆尽。还剩一项好事，又见注明，已被清明日所作之恶事削去，大概是他清明节扫墓时所为。余生的寿命，也像差吏所说。
<P>舅父醒来，急忙把余生叫到床前，把他所做恶事，一件件数落出来，并把梦中所见告诉他。余生涕泣服罪，从此收敛。二十多年后，仍以秀才命终。相士都说此人天生福相，不是秀才之命。
<P>余生天资聪慧，长大后又善于学习，如果他能自爱自重，扶持正义，那梦中神明所说的事，怎么会不兑现呢？但是他却肆意搬弄是非，编造谎言，笔下生花，颠倒黑白。毁人名节，福禄被削除殆尽。若非其舅父教诲改过，性命难保。
<P>一个人应该珍惜天赐福荫，多做善事，扬正义之举，他的福份才会往更长来延续。如果不善用自己的才华，为一时名利而多行不义，必遭天谴，结果是自己毁了自己。正是：人生福祸皆天理，报应昭彰善恶间。<BR></SPAN><FONT face=宋体></FONT></P></font></td>
