<p style="text-indent: 22pt; line-height: 200%"><font color="#333333">古时两湖之地有一个读书人，心地正直。恰好阴曹地府第七殿缺人，玉皇大帝就任命他暂时代理。这样，每隔数日，他就到冥府处理事情。主要工作是简阅文簿，不需要判案。在翻阅文簿时，他看到每个人因为所造业力不同，所得到的惩罚或福报也各不相同。他每次看到有人受刀山剑树（注）之刑时，就马上派左右去救。但却愈救愈不止，根本没有办法挽救那些人。
<P>一天，读书人在翻看文簿时，看到在其妻子的名下载着一条罪状，称她偷了邻居家的一只鸡，连毛一共重一斤十二两。于是他将这一页折起来，以便将来查找。
<P>回到阳间后，他诘问他的妻子是否偷了邻居家的鸡。最初，他的妻子还抵赖，不愿意承认。待他将阴间所见告诉了妻子，妻子才承认说，是因为邻居家的鸡吃了她所晒的粮食，她失手误将鸡打死。因为害怕邻妇责骂，所以将鸡藏了起来，并将此事隐瞒。
<P>夫妻俩遂将死鸡挖出来，用秤一称，刚好一斤十二两。夫妻二人十分惊异，于是按照市价，拿去赔偿邻居，并承认了过错。
<P>几日后，读书人又来到冥府。打开曾经折叠的文簿，发现折痕依旧，但其妻子的罪状已无踪影。
<P>神目如电，一件小的过错，都会被记录在案，更不用说迫害法轮功学员的大罪，那将不只是受刀山剑树之刑，而是形神全灭。
<P>注：刀山剑树：佛教所说的地狱之刑。形容极残酷的刑罚。
