<p style="text-indent: 22pt; line-height: 200%"><font color="#333333"><P>欧阳观是宋朝庐陵人，曾经做过泗州和绵州两个地方的判官。他心地善良，心怀怜悯之心，总是非常谨慎的留心案情，总怕没有查明真实情况而冤枉无辜。</P>
<P>欧阳观有时在家中深夜处理公文，常常唉叹不已。夫人问其原因，欧阳观说：“这个人是死罪，我反复推敲想让他能够活命，但却没能找到办法，这样至少我和被判死罪的人都没有遗憾了。如果不能尽力去帮他找能够活下去的机会，那么死的人会有很大的怨恨的。我常常想办法让他们活命，但稍有疏忽仍可能让他们丢掉性命，而世人却常常想让他们快些死去。”</P>
<P>欧阳观后来生了儿子欧阳修，还没有长大成人，欧阳观就去世了。母亲深知欧阳观一生善良助人，积德甚多，其后代子孙一定会兴旺昌盛的。便把父亲生前的事迹告诉了儿子欧阳修，说道：“我不知道你将来有没有成就，但是知道你的父亲一定会有好的后代的。”</P>
<P>果然，欧阳修后来科举及第，成为北宋贤相和著名的大文学家。欧阳观后被追封为“郑国公”。</P>
