<p style="text-indent: 22pt; line-height: 200%"><font color="#333333"><P><A href="/news2/upimg/uploadimg/20050919/090305594.jpg" target=_blank><IMG height=334 alt="" src="/news2/upimg/uploadimg/20050919/090305594.jpg" width=288 align=right border=0></A> 一天傍晚，他在单行道的乡村公路上孤独地驾着车回家。在这美国中西部小镇上谋生，他的生活节奏就象他开的老爷车一样非常迟缓。自从他原来的工厂倒闭后，他就没有找到过固定工作，但他还是没有放弃希望。外面空气冰冷，冬天开始笼罩四野，路上旷无人迹。在这种地方，除了外迁的人们，谁会在这路上驾驶？</P>
<P>他熟悉的朋友大多数已经离开了这个小镇。朋友们有朋友们的梦想要实现，有他们的家庭要抚养。但是他自己还是选择留在了故乡。这是他出生的地方，这里有着他的童年和梦想，还有他那已经入了土的父母。周围的一切他是那么地熟悉，他可以闭着眼睛告诉你什么是什么，哪里是哪里。他的老爷车的车灯坏了，但是他不用担心，他能认路。天开始变黑，雪花越落越厚。他告诉他自己得加快回家的脚步了。 </P>
<P>他差一点没有注意到这位困在路边的老太太。外面已经很黑了，这么偏远的地方，老太太要求援是很难的。我来帮她吧，他一边想着，一边把老爷车开到老太太的奔驰轿车前停了下来。尽管他朝老太太报以微笑，可是他看得出老太太非常紧张。她在想：会不会遇上强盗了？这人看上去穷困潦倒，饿狼一样。 </P>
<P>他能读懂这位站在寒风中瑟瑟打抖的老太太的心思。他说："我是来帮你的，老妈妈。你先坐到车子里去，里面暖和一点。别担心，我叫拜伦。” </P>
<P>老太太的轮胎爆了，换上备用胎就可以。但这对老太太来说，并不是件容易的事情。拜伦钻到车底下，察看底盘哪个部位可以撑千斤顶把车顶起来，他爬进爬出的时候，不小心将自己的膝盖擦破了。等将轮胎换好，他的衣服脏了，手也酸了。就在他将最后几颗螺丝按上的时候，老太太将车窗摇下，开始和他讲话。她告诉他她是从圣路以斯大城市来的，从这里经过，非常感谢他能停下来帮她的忙。拜伦一边听着，一边将坏轮胎以及修车工具放回老太太的后车厢，然后关上箱盖，脸上挂着微笑。老太太问欠他多少钱，还说他要多少钱都不在乎。因为她能想象得出如果拜伦没有停下来帮她的话，在这种地方和这个时候，什么事情都可能发生在她身上。 </P>
<P>帮这老太太忙是要向她要钱？拜伦没有想过。他从来没有把帮助人当作一份工作来做。别人有难应该去帮忙，这是天地良心，在过去有多少人给他帮过忙。过去他是这样做的，现在他也不想改变这种做人的方式。他告诉老太太，如果她真的想报答他的话，那么下次她看见别人需要帮忙的时候就去帮忙别人。他补充说：那时候你要记得我。 </P>
<P>他看着她的车子走远。他的这一天并不如意，现在他帮助了一个人，他一路开车回家的心情变得很好。 </P>
<P>再说那老太太。她在车子开出了将近一英里的地方，看到路边有一家小咖啡馆，就停车进去了。她想，还得开一段路才能到家，不如先吃一点东西，暖暖身子，压压惊。 </P>
<P>这是一家很旧的咖啡馆，门外有两台加油机；室内很暗，收银机就象老掉牙的电话机一样没有什么用场。女招待走过来给她送来了菜单，老太太觉得这位招待的笑容让她感到很舒服。这招待挺着大肚子，看来最起码有八个月的身孕了，可是看来一天的劳累并没有让她失去待客的热情。老太太心想，这么穷的地方，是什么让这位怀孕的女人必须工作，而又是什么让她仍如此热情地招待客人呢？她想起了拜伦。 </P>
<P>女招待将老太太的一百元现钞拿去结帐，老太太却悄悄地离开了咖啡馆。当女招待将找头送还给老太太时，发现位置已经空着，正想着老太太跑到哪里去的时候，她注意到老太太的餐巾纸上有写东西，在餐巾纸下，她发现另外还压着三百块钱。 </P>
<P>餐巾纸上是这样写着的： </P>
<P>"这钱是我的礼物。你不欠我什么。我经历过你现在的处境。有人曾经象现在我帮助你一样帮助过我。如果你想报答我，就不要让你的爱心失去。” </P>
<P>女招待读着餐巾纸，眼泪夺眶而出。餐馆有很多事情要做，招待客人，打扫桌椅，将糖罐加满等。女招待尽心地做完了。 </P>
<P>那天晚上，她回到家里，躺在床上翻来覆去地睡不着，她想着那老太太和她留下的纸条和钱。那老太太怎么知道她和她先生正在为钱犯愁呢？下个月孩子就要生了，费用却还没有完全有着落，她和她先生一直都在为这担心。现在这下可好了，老太太真是雪里送炭。 </P>
<P>看着身边熟睡的丈夫，她知道白天他也在为赚钱犯愁。她侧过身去给他轻轻的一吻，柔和地自言自语："一切都会好的，拜伦，我爱你。”<BR></P></font></td>
