<p style="text-indent: 22pt; line-height: 200%"><font color="#333333">这件事，发生在宋代绍兴三十年（公元1160年）。
<P>当时，信州（今江西上饶）玉山县塘南七里店村，村民谢七的妻子，人称七嫂。七嫂对婆婆不孝，行为十分刻薄。每次吃饭时，她自己吃白米饭，却给婆婆吃粗麦饭，并且只给她半碗，不让她吃饱。长年如此。
<P>有一天，七嫂与丈夫一起外出，留下婆婆一个人在家看门。有个和尚从门口经过，向这位婆婆讨饭吃，婆婆笑着说：“我自己都没有吃饱过，哪儿有饭给你哟！”和尚指着盆里的白米饭问：“可以拿点这里的饭，给我吗？”婆婆非常恐慌的说：“唉呀呀，这白米饭是我家七嫂的，我一点都不敢动。我如果把这饭给你吃，她回来后，必然要痛骂和侮辱我。”和尚一再恳求，婆婆始终害怕，不敢把白米饭给和尚吃。
<P>过了一会儿，七嫂回来了。那和尚就直接向七嫂要饭吃。七嫂勃然大怒，连骂带赶。和尚不走，苦苦哀求，十分恳切。七嫂吐了他一大口，说：“把你身上的袈裟脱了拿来，才可以换一口饭吃。”
<P>和尚立即脱下袈裟，交给她。七嫂拿过袈裟，翻来覆去的仔细察看，好玩似的披到身上。说时迟，那时快，就在这时，那个和尚忽然不见了。而七嫂身上的袈裟却变成了一张牛皮，牢牢的粘在她身上，再也脱不下来。七嫂的胸部，也迅速的长出一片牛毛来。毛还越长越多，一会儿就长遍了全身。连她的头和脸，都变成了牛的模样。
<P>她的丈夫吓坏了，跑到七嫂的娘家，告知这个情况。七嫂的父母急忙赶来，一看，唉呀！七嫂已经完全变成一条牛了！（事据宋代洪迈著的《夷坚志》卷八）
<P>洪迈是饶州鄱阳（今江西波阳）人，生于1123年，卒于1202年。他写的这件事发生在1160年。也就是说，这是他在世时亲见亲闻范围内的实录。他曾担任过江西赣州、婺州等地的行政长官，是江西人写江西事。夷坚是传说中的上古时代的人名。他博闻多识。“夷坚志”的意思是：把亲见亲闻的事记录成书，这就是此书的写作目的和性质。
<P>比洪迈小两岁的陆游，对此书倍加推崇，曾经写了“题《夷坚志》后”的诗：“岂唯堪史补，端是擅文豪。”陆游认为此书作为纪实巨著，可弥补正史的缺失，是文坛上的杰出作品。可见这件恶人变牛的事，是千真万确的<BR></P></font></td>
